XXX Instansia

Each image in XXX Instansia is a deepfake of the artist, derived from a dataset of pornographic Polaroids found online and printed onto the same instant film that once served as a proto-networked form of pornography. The Polaroid was the first infrastructure of domestic erotic exchange: its labless immediacy made it a discreet technology of intimacy, allowing photographs to be produced and circulated without institutional oversight, much as AI pornography now allows users to generate and share erotic images from their own devices, through text prompts and online networks that sit outside the large corporate infrastructures of the web. CLIP-based descriptions of the vintage scenes serve as prompts for a diffusion model trained on the artist’s image, so that the prints echo the aesthetic signals of the originals while pushing the figure into synthetic, unstable forms, where the body reads as a composite of dataset traits. The series links two regimes of amateur networked image-making, the analogue traffic of Polaroids passed hand to hand and the prompt-driven traffic of AI porn circulating through feeds. Printing the composite body back onto instant film places the two in a single print, a format that once recorded a particular person now carrying a figure assembled from the found material and the artist’s face.
